We are thrilled to invite you to the upcoming Coastal Conference, a gathering dedicated to the protection and preservation of our invaluable coastal ecosystems. This event will serve as a platform for passionate individuals, environmental advocates, and community leaders to come together and discuss the vital importance of safeguarding our shores.
The Coastal Conference will feature a series of engaging sessions, including talks by distinguished speakers from various organizations, documentary screenings, and opportunities to connect with local vendors who share our commitment to sustainability. Through these activities, we aim to inspire, educate, and foster a sense of responsibility towards our coastal environments.
The Coastal Conservation department of BC Métis Federation was proud to host the Coastal Conference on October 21, 2023, a gathering dedicated to fostering awareness and action for the protection of our coastal ecosystems.
The event, held in Langley, BC, brought together 64 attendees as well as 14 guest speakers. Topics included aquatic conservation, eco lifestyle, palaeontology and climatology, invasive species, and youth initiatives. Métis Elder Betty Fisher gave both opening and closing prayers, and the event was emceed by Coastal Water Protector and BCMF member Jocelyn Mcintosh.
"The first ever Coastal Conference exceeded our expectations," said Angel Fisher, Director of Coastal Conservation. That sentiment was shared by Zia Yazdani, Coastal Manager. He said "We left feeling full of gratitude for a full house in attendance and a stellar lineup of guest speakers, all sharing inspiring stories that motivate."
With a general atmosphere of optimism and forward-looking activities and conversations, the Coastal Conference inspired, educated, and fostered a sense of responsibility towards coastal environments.
