English Bay • Vancouver

Our first beach clean up of the year!

Event Recap:

In a heartening demonstration of community spirit and environmental stewardship, the inaugural beach cleanup of 2024, aptly named 'Sweeping the Shores,' was a resounding success. With over 400 dedicated volunteers from various corners of the Lower Mainland, the event not only cleared litter from the coastline but also showcased the power of collective action in protecting our planet.

Organized by the Coastal Water Protectors, dedicated to preserving the natural beauty of local beaches, the cleanup received significant support from its sponsor, Grounds for Coffee. Their generous contribution went beyond sponsorship; they provided hot coffee and delicious cinnamon buns, energizing the volunteers for their noble task.

For two hours, the shores buzzed with activity as volunteers, equipped with gloves and garbage bags, meticulously cleaned the sands. Every piece of litter, from plastic bottles to discarded wrappers, was a step towards restoring the coastline to its pristine state.

The sense of camaraderie was palpable as participants, ranging from families to environmental enthusiasts, worked hand in hand, united by a shared goal. Amidst the rhythmic sound of waves, laughter and conversation filled the air, highlighting the community's determination to make a difference.

The impact of the cleanup extended beyond the beachfront, attracting attention from media outlets eager to showcase the community's positive efforts. Global News and CBC News provided coverage, amplifying the event's reach and inspiring others to take action in their communities.
