Event Recap:

On June 8th, the BC Métis Federation's Department of Conservation traveled to Nanaimo to participate in World Oceans Day, an event dedicated to celebrating and caring for the world's oceans. To mark the occasion, the team organized their third shoreline cleanup of the year, aptly named "Sweeping the Shores," at Neck Point Park. This picturesque location provided the perfect backdrop for the event, which drew nearly 30 enthusiastic volunteers. Participants included locals as well as dedicated individuals who traveled from neighboring communities such as Campbell River and Black Creek, underscoring the widespread commitment to environmental stewardship.

The shoreline cleanup was a resounding success, with volunteers working diligently to remove litter and debris from the beach and surrounding areas. The collective effort not only enhanced the park's natural beauty but also highlighted the critical importance of maintaining clean and healthy marine environments. The Department of Conservation provided educational materials and guidance, ensuring that the volunteers understood the impact of their efforts. The event fostered a strong sense of community and shared purpose, inspiring participants to continue advocating for ocean conservation long after World Oceans Day.
